Seventies-influenced rock artist Debra Devi celebrates her new Wild Little Girl EP (True Nature Records) with her first show at Rockwood Music Hall's intimate Stage 1, Monday Oct 2. Devi has released four music videos for her six-song EP on The Alternate Root, American Blues Scene, Guitar Girl and The Pop Break.
"Firmly grounded in the blues/rock tradition," The Jersey Journal reports, "Wild Little Girl mixes wistfulness with forcefulness. Devi comes across as sassy and defiant on 'Shake It,' wistful and meditative on 'Butterfly." She wanders into modern country on '10 Miles to Clarksdale' and is broken-hearted but hopeful on 'Stay.' Every track leaves room for her organic, expansive guitar solos."
Devi is also the author of The Language of the Blues: From Alcorub to Zuzu (Foreword by Dr. John), which won an ASCAP Deems Taylor Award and is blurbed by
Bonnie Raitt and Joe Bonamassa. Devi was thrilled when Louis Electric Amplifiers brought Hubert Sumlin's Bluesbreaker amp for her to play at her Sep 8 EP release party at Maxwell's.
"At Rockwood," Devi says, "my band and I will bring the volume down and lay bare the bones of these songs. I love the hushed soulful atmosphere of Stage 1 and can't wait to let our keyboard player, Peter Vitalone, loose on that baby grand."
