Renowned L.A. jazz keyboardist/musician David Garfield and SoCal fusion legends Karizma perform at the 20th (and Final) Carlos Vega Memorial Concert, Sunday, December 10 at Alva's Showroom, 1417 W. 8th St. Showtime: 4:00 pm. Tickets: $40., available here. Info: (310) 833-7538 or visit https://alvasshowroom.com/event/20th-annual-carlos-vega-memorial-birthday-concert/.

Joining Garfield onstage at Alva's for this very special event are L.A. greats and former Karizma band-members Mike Miller (guitar); Larry Klimas (saxophone); Dean Cortez (bass); Jimmy Branly (drums); and Joey DeLeon (percussion), as well as Frank Gambale (guitar), Gary Novak (drums), and other Special Guests. Vega, also once a member of Karizma, was a respected L.A. drummer who died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in April, 1988. Primarily known for his studio recordings and tours with James Taylor, Vega also played and performed at various times with Freddy Hubbard, Boz Scaggs, Lee Ritenour, Vince Gill, Reba McIntire, Olivia Newton-John (including the "Grease" soundtrack), Larry Carlton, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, and Randy Newman.

Garfield, also the longtime Musical Director for famed jazz guitarist George Benson, recently gathered an All-Star lineup for a fresh re-imagining of Stevie Wonder's classic song, "Go Home." Released on Garfield's independent label Creatchy Records, "Go Home" is currently charting high on the Billboard Smooth Jazz Chart and worldwide elsewhere, with L.A. Music Critic Robert Leggett writing, "sweet sound featuring strong saxophone and guitar, great upbeat rhythm, awesome background vocals and a catchy melody throughout." The song impacted radio August 7 and is available for streaming and digital download.

"Go Home" is the first in a series of single track releases that Garfield is releasing from his upcoming all-star studio project, an expansive work that features numerous genre superstar collaborators: George Benson, David Sanborn, Oleta Adams, Rick Braun, Marcus Miller, John Klemmer, Michael McDonald, Ray Parker, Jr., Lamont Dozier, Jr., Tom Scott, Nathan East, Kenya Hathaway, Randy Brecker, legendary Doors drummer John Densmore and Larry Coryell in his final performances. The project will feature previously unrecorded vocal songs penned by Garfield and Motown legend Smokey Robinson.
