Dante Elephante released their new single "Call Me (on the phone)" today, produced by Jonathan Rado of Foxygen (The Lemon Twigs, Whitney).
"The song is about my first 6 months being single after a 3-year relationship," shares Ruben Zarate, frontman and founder of Dante Elephante. "The verses are positive about going out and having a good time. Then, when I was writing the song, my ex called me while I was sitting on the piano just to "talk." It was a pretty average talk. She rambles about how she's been since the break up and I gave short responses on how I've been. We hang up, I sit at the piano again, and then the first thing that came out of my mouth was "call me on the phone / cause you know what it does / it says, I have to be someone I'm not"."
"Call Me", a track that perfectly articulates life after a long-term break-up, is the first sign of much anticipated new music from the Santa Barbara-bred rockers. Zarate shared withFLOOD Magazine, who premiered the track on Thursday, "this is the song that plays constantly in my head when I'm at my sty part time job. I'm excited for everyone to hear this song that's been my little secret for a little over a year. I can't wait to hit the road hard in 2018 and release this new record."
Dante Elephante announced dates for an upcoming tour co-headlining with Sego in March, climaxing with a performance at SXSW in Austin, TX. Tickets are on sale now here.

Dante Elephante is an indie rock band based in Los Angeles, CA. In 2013 released their first EP with Echo Park based label, Lolipop Records. In 2015, they took a new batch of songs into the home studio of producer Jonathan Rado (one half of Foxygen), who stripped away a bit of the surf sound and helped Zarate tap deeper into his longtime influences, a task made fairly easy due to the overlap of many of Rado's own musical heroes. The resulting LP, Anglo-Saxon Summer, was released in Oct. 2015 via Lolipop Records.
Dante Elephante began the production of new work in 2017, expected for release this year, renting out a studio for a month in the cuts of Goleta, CA. The material is all self-produced except for "Call Me (on the phone)" which was produced by Jonathan Rado. The band explored and expanded their sound by adding horns, flutes, bongos and strings, changing style from Surf, Jangle Pop to Soul, R&B.
