Today, GRAMMY-winning songwriter
Dan Wilson released a new song "Fly Safe" following his announcement last year that he will begin releasing a new song each month in lieu of full length album in 2019. These songs, which include
"Uncanny Valley" and
"We Ain't Telling," follow the release of his critically-acclaimed 2017 solo album
Re-Covered where he revisited songs he wrote with other artists including Adele, The
Dixie Chicks and more.
"This song is about seeing someone you love off on a trip and looking forward to the day they come back, being willing to wait and hoping that their return will be a new beginning," said Wilson about the new song.
As a highly sought after songwriter and producer, Wilson continues to collaborate with a stylistically diverse array of artists. Releases over the last year include songs by Mike Posner, John Legend, Halsey, Meklit Hadero, Phantogram, Josh Groban, Brett Dennen, Lukas Graham, Leon Bridges,
Jason Mraz and more.
Wilson has also launched his own publishing company called A Song Can Be About Anything. His first signing, in conjunction with
Big Deal Music, was singer songwriter
Jenny Owen Youngs. Her credits as a songwriter now include releases by Pitbull, Ingrid Michaelson, Shungudzo (for 50 Shades Freed) and
Panic! At The Disco (Youngs is a writer on the multi format #1 hit
"High Hopes").
"I started A Song Can Be About Anything to give me the chance to go into business with younger songwriters and help develop their careers. I also saw it as a way to bypass the 'a thousand first dates' approach of most publishers and instead to go deep with someone that I respect and enjoy," explains Wilson. "My first signing, which I did with
Big Deal Music, was Jenny Owen Youngs, and we've now written 20+ songs together. Jenny is having an amazing year. Between the crazy success of 'High Hopes' by Panic! at the Disco, a great new EP in the works and her hit podcast, Buffering the Vampire Slayer, it's a hectic but exciting time."
Dan Wilson will perform a sold out "3 Ring Binger" all request show at the Ice House in Minneapolis, MN on March 15 and his band
Semisonic has just announced they will perform at the Basilica Block Part in Minneapolis, MN on July 12.
