DJ Happy Colors (A.K.A. Hector Mendoza) is re-interpreting traditional Latino dance music for new generations. Drawing from the urban sound system culture, DJ Happy Colors is on the forefront of the emerging bass music scene, sampling from a range of influences including merengue, cumbia, bachata, to trap and the Caribbean sounds of moombahton. On October 7th, he released his new single "Mamagüevo" on Sony Music available everywhere. True to DJ Happy Colors style of world bass electronic music this track combines his influences of traditional Latin dance music with a modern electronic flare.
This year was the first year the Latin GRAMMY's nominated a world bass track, putting
DJ Happy Colors on the forefront of this emerging genre of Latino electronic dance music.
DJ Happy Colors says, "I make music from my heart. I combine my culture with electronic music and make it for Latinos and myself." Taking only the most interesting parts of the samples,
DJ Happy Colors makes it work, resulting in very catchy and danceable music. He is nominated for a 2016 Latin GRAMMY for "Cumbia Anthem" along with co-producer El Dusty, for "Best Urban/Fusion Performance" further cementing his place in both Latino and electronic dance music.
Dominican born and Miami raised,
DJ Happy Colors burst onto the electronic dance scene when he met Diplo. He recalls, "I was making tracks, and more tracks, and kept sending them to Diplo and finally one day he liked a track and I hooked up with Mad Decent." Since then, he has collaborated with the likes of Major Lazor, Jack Ü, DJ Blass, De La Ghetto, Lapiz Conciente, and Los Rakas.
DJ Happy Colors has performed at premier festivals including, EDC Mexico, SXSW, Life In Colors and will play at Sony Music Latin GRAMMYs 2016 after party. He is set to perform in Miami at the end of
October 2016.
