Cornish Music Series announces two upcoming concerts with a Brazilian focus.

Three-time Latin Grammy nominee Jovino Santos Neto kicks it off on April 3 with his Quinteto - Chuck Deardorf (bass), Mark Ivester (drums), Ben Thomas (vibraphone), and Jeff Busch (percussion)-in a concert of his recent original compositions featuring a wide range of Brazilian styles. Special guest jazz vocalist Johnaye Kendrick joins the band on several selections.

Trio Brasileiro with special guests acclaimed jazz clarinetist Anat Cohen and Jovino Santos Neto, will showcase Brazil's choro repertoire on May 4. Choro (or chorinho) in Portuguese, translating to "little cry" or "lament", is a popular style of music born in 19th century Rio de Janeiro, continuing today as a living tradition passed down from musician to musician; it transcends time and outshines boundaries. Blending African polyrhythms and grooves, with European form and harmony while infusing South American indigenous roots, this music has been thrilling audiences worldwide. Local band Choroloco will open the concert.
