Composer-Guitarist Bill MacKay Comes to California For Solo Tour Image

Bill MacKay is a Drag City recording artist, composer, guitarist, and improviser based in Chicago. His creatively-charged songwriting, and unpredictable approach to the guitar have inspired a diverse and growing set of listeners & collaborators.

His most recent records Esker (Drag City, 2017), SpiderBeetleBee (Drag City, 2017) the second duo set he's done with Ryley Walker, and Altamira (Ears & Eyes, 2015) by his band Darts & Arrows, are some of his most notable recordings, and reveal an expansive range - from the folk of Appalachia, avant-rock, and blues to gospel, jazz, raga-esque excursions, and experimental modes.

His work has received praise in reviews in NPR, Mojo, Uncut, Downbeat, Paste, Pitchfork, The Quietus, and Chicago Reader among other publications. MacKay appears in the MOJO's March 2018 issue, performing Nick Drake's Cello Song on the cover-mount CD. He has toured extensively in the United States, Mexico and the UK.
