Chonda Pierce said, "I'm nervous! I have allowed a film crew to expose very tender and private moments in my life simply hoping to continue a dialogue about faith, depression, grief and pain to promote healing for broken hearted people. I love the Church - but it's not perfect. I love God - but life is hard. This movie 'shows' it all not just 'tells' it all. Mental illness is not a lack of faith and loving Jesus doesn't exempt you from pain. And being a comic doesn't mean you laugh all the time!"
"Chonda Pierce: Laughing in the Dark" is an in-depth look into the life of America's number one female comedian (RIAA certified 5 Platinum, 8 Gold DVDs), Chonda Pierce. The docu-comedy follows Chonda as she struggles with loss, separation, tragedy and depression and finds hope through her relationship with God and her fans. The film mirrors her concerts as she takes the audience on an emotional roller-coaster ride descending to the depths of dark despair and rising to the heights of victory propelled by laughter, perseverance and faith. Watch as Chonda masterfully turns pain into inspiration and tragedy into comedy using never-before-seen or heard moments in the life of this survivor.
Fathom Events CEO John Rubey said, "This event really brings to light the importance of having faith through life's most difficult times. Chonda's ability to use humor to overcome her struggles is truly inspiring and a great lesson for us all."
Producer Kent Songer said, "Chonda has always been able to do the impossible. She's the best-selling female comedian in history and not many in the mainstream entertainment community have heard of her. And at the pinnacle of her career, she allows her fans full access to her life - now, then and in the future. She's an amazingly brave and talented woman, and I am proud to be a part of this unique Fathom event."
Chonda's manager and producer Andrew Tenenbaum said, "This is a most special project for me, to be able to tell the true story of my dear friend Chonda in a way that will connect with millions who can find strength, courage and survival...and hopefully a few great laughs."To view movie clips, trailers and for group ticket information visit www.laughinginthedarkmovie.com.
