Colorado Quartet to Disband – Final NYC Performance 2/28 at Symphony Space

After a distinguished career lasting three decades, the much-lauded Colorado Quartet will give its final New York City performance as part of Symphony Space's The Music of Now series on Thursday, February 28.

Says D. Lydia Redding, the quartet's founder and second violinist:

"After a 30-year career based in the New York City area, the Colorado Quartet will disband in May 2013. We, the members of the Quartet, are deeply grateful to audience, Friends and family around the world who have supported us emotionally and fiscally. We have had many memorable and fabulous experiences during the course of our travels, and all agree that our time in the Colorado Quartet has been the most meaningful of our lives. It is fitting that our final performance in New York will be at Symphony Space, where we have felt at home since 1981; our collaboration with Laura Kaminsky has endured over 20 years, and we wish to thank her for this final opportunity."

The Colorado Quartet's Feb. 28 concert will feature soprano Lucy Shelton. Poignantly, the program is titled "Farewell Letters," and features a world premiere by composer Tamar Muskal based on "Farewell Letters to the Beloved One" by Hanoch Levin (translated from the Hebrew by Chaya Galai). The evening pairs Muskal's haunting new work with Leos Janacek's "manifesto on love:" his Quartet No. 2, Intimate Letters. More details to come, but you can read about it here.
