AMERICAN IDOL runner up and former CELEBRITY APPRENTICE contestant Clay Aiken took to Twitter yesterday to apologize for his previous support of Donald Trump. During last year's presidential election, Aiken, a democrat who supported Hillary Clinton, told FOX Business, "I don't think he's a fascist. I don't think he's a racist."
Aiken unsuccessfully ran for a congressional seat in 2014. Two years ago, the SPAMALOT star told CNN that Trump was similar to "that uncle, who embarrasses the hell out of you sometimes and you still love them, but damn, you wish they'd shut up."
Following yesterday's contentious news conference in which Trump blamed "both sides" for the white supremacist violence that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend, Aiken tweeted:
Remember all those times I defended @realDonaldTrump and believed he was not actually racist? Well... I am a f*****g dumbass. #imsorry

TBC... I've always thought he would be a dumpster fire as a president, and I was right about that. I just didn't think he was racist. #wrong https://t.co/6ec0Qm0WxW
