The psych-rock supergroup, featuring members of Guided By Voices and The Men, will release their debut album on November 10 via Iron Pier. The brute intensity of Chomper-a psych-rock supergroup featuring Mark Shue (Guided by Voices, Beech Creeps), Nick Chiericozzi and Mark Perro (The Men), and Russell Hymowitz (Dream Police, Junk Boy)-defies both name and convention. The band have announced their debut album and released their first single, "I Wanna Die."
Chomper's name is emblematic of the band's teeth gnashing intensity through both style and sound. Taking cues from garage rock pantheons The Stooges and MC5, the four-piece unleashes sonic energy by the kilowatt. "I Wanna Die," the first cut from their forthcoming LP
Medicine Mountain, combines gnarly primality and infectious melody to create one mean molotov cocktail of noise.
Chomper was borne of ragtag jam sessions with a simple MO: play loud, loose, and stress-free. That attitude is omnipresent throughout the band's debut, which emulates the gusto of The Damned, the melodic murk of
Beech Creeps and the cheeky nihilism of Dead Boys.
Medicine Mountain is due out on November 10 via
Iron Pier. Stay tuned for more news to come.
