Si-Yo Music Society Foundation has welcomed Maestro Cho-Liang Lin to the Si-Yo Artist roster as the Foundation's first Master Artist, in recognition of his impact on the music world and his mentorship of younger musicians.
An internationally renowned violinist, teacher and performer, Lin has performed as a soloist with nearly every major orchestra in the world including New York Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, Toronto Symphony and Royal Philharmonic. He is also a faculty member at The Juilliard School and Rice University, and Music Director of La Jolla SummerFest and the Hong Kong International Chamber Music Festival.
In addition to performing and teaching, Lin is a prolific recording artist who has been published by such labels as Sony Classical and Naxos; his albums have won Gramophone Record of the Year and Penguin Guide Rosettes, and have been nominated for Grammys. He also frequently commissions new works; composers who have written for him include Tan Dun, John Williams, John Harbison and Christopher Rouse.
"Maestro Lin is a living legend who has moved audiences, inspired students and created opportunities for the next generation of musicians around the world with his generous and insightful leadership,"said Chairwoman and President Eva Lerner-Lam. "We are excited to have him on our roster and look forward to his mentorship of our young artists, as well as his advice regarding our major initiatives in the Americas, Asia and Europe."
"I am delighted to join Si-Yo Music Society Foundation," said Lin. "I have long admired its mission of fostering the next generation of musical talents and I am eager to help Si-Yo with this goal."
Lin joins a roster of international artists who are Si-Yo's ambassadors of Western classical music. The Foundation provides its musicians with global teaching and performance opportunities, an instrument lending program and an artistic support network.
