A fresh and powerful new voice on the contemporary jazz scene, Cheryl Barnes (www.cheryldbarnes.com) - whose new full-length album Listen To This is scoring airplay everywhere from KCRW in Los Angeles to WNVW (The Wave) in Cleveland - will be sharing a "Hot Night of Cool Jazz" with renowned R&B/Jazz singer Johnny Britt on Saturday, August 16 in Port Hueneme, Calif.
A warm and intimate evening concert by the beach, the show - presented by the Hueneme Chamber of Commerce - takes place at 7 p.m. at 575 E. Surfside Drive and is sponsored by the Holiday Inn Express and the Ventura County Star. For tickets, visit www.huenemechamber.com.
The show falls on the same weekend as the 16th Annual Celebration of the Toni Young Hueneme Beach Festival, "the hottest beach party in Southern California," set for August 16 & 17 at Hueneme Beach Park. Entertainment includes the music of former American Idol contestant and recording artist Casey Abrams.
Barnes' mystical soul-jazz ballad "Come With Me" is already receiving spins on more than 60 terrestrial and internet stations in the smooth jazz format. Barnes' multi-format appeal has also earned her significant Triple AAA airplay for her heartfelt, jazzy rendition of Joni Mitchell's "Come In From The Cold."
The singer recently released a video for "Come With Me" on YouTube (here) featuring her singing in many of Los Angeles' most iconic and sunny locations; the clip was directed by award-winning videographer David West. It is being featured on SmoothJazz.com Global Radio and SmoothTravel Facebook pages and Twitter feeds.
Listen To This was produced by Rahn Coleman, whose resume of legends includes Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Barry White, Ray Charles and Tom Jones. Ms. Barnes' show will be under the musical direction of the executive producer of Listen To This, Keyboardist Phillip Cabasso.
Dubbed by his fans "Marvin Gaye meets Miles Davis," Johnny Britt has scored two #1 Billboard Contemporary Jazz singles and has worked with everyone from Josh Groban, David Bowie, Jennifer Lopez and The Temptations to Maxwell, Peabo Bryson, Quincy Jones, David Foster and Boney James.
