Detroit, MI -- One of the finest young singers on the hot jazz scene, CÉCILE MCLORIN SALVANT is making her Wharton Center debut. Currently a European sensation, she is winning over American audiences one note at a time, combining conservatory-honed technique with a gift for lyrical interpretation. CÉCILE MCLORIN SALVANT, part of the MSU Federal Credit Union Jazz at Wharton Center Series, will be featured tonight, April 29 in the Pasant Theatre. Tickets to see CÉCILE MCLORIN SALVANT are available at the official source to purchase Wharton Center tickets online, whartoncenter.com, at the Auto-Owners Insurance Ticket Office, or by calling 1-800-WHARTON.

CÉCILE MCLORIN SALVANT is the winner of the 2010 Thelonious Monk International Vocals Competition, and her American debut album, WomanChild, is Grammy-nominated. Celebrated for her deep, velvety voice, she gives a sublime feel to the blues as well as jazz music of the '20's and '30's, and has enjoyed popularity wherever she goes, from clubs to concert halls. From sorrow to joyful humor, CÉCILE MCLORIN SALVANT draws out a story from within each song and brings the lyrics to life, using her own personality and emotions.

Born and raised in Miami, Florida of a French mother and a Haitian father, CÉCILE MCLORIN SALVANT developed an interest in classical music at a young age. She studied piano and voice all through childhood, before moving to France in 2007 to pursue law as well as classical and baroque voice at the Darius Milhaud Conservatory. It was there that she started learning about improvisation and first sang with a band. Cécile's unique interpretations of scarcely recorded jazz and blues compositions have truly set her apart as a performer; don't miss your chance to see the future of jazz now at Wharton Center.
