On
September 21,
Carl Broemel will release
Wished Out via Stocks In Asia / Thirty Tigers. The album marks his third solo release and follow up to 2016's acclaimed 4th of July. Today, Broemel released the video for "Dark Matter," the second single to be released from the forthcoming album.
"I really loved watching Neil DeGrasse Tyson's 'Cosmos' TV show, and it sent me down a road of reading a lot of books about space," explained Broemel in a statement to
Guitar World. "I got kind of fixated on the fact that scientists can sense dark matter and account for it, but they cannot see it or explain it, just like the appearances of the monoliths in '2001 A Space Odyssey.' To live in that mental space of knowing some clear lessons from science, and yet having other aspects be completely mysterious, is so appealing to me. I am really hoping that we can act upon current scientific knowledge to improve the whole world, and then we will have plenty of time to experience and enjoy the wonder of it all."
Broemel recorded Wished Out at his newly-constructed home studio in Nashville, tracking many of the instruments alone before reaching out to several friends - including Robbie Crowell (Deer Tick), Russ Pollard (Everest, Sebadoh), and
My Morning Jacket bandmates Tom Blankenship and Bo Koster - for help.
He worked in spurts, taking short breaks to drive his son to school and longer breaks to hit the road with My
Morning Jacket, and pulled triple duty as Wished Out's producer, engineer, and frontman along the way.
In support of the new album, Broemel, along with support from Steelism, will hit the road for a national tour. Tickets are on
