Canadian Music Week (CMW) has announced the confirmed speakers, events, and award recipients for the Industry Conferences and Awards taking place April 19 - 21, 2017 at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel.
Canadian Music Week's 3-day Music Summit, the heart of the Festival, will include keynotes, celebrity interviews, panels and workshops. Music Summit highlights include: Denise Donlan sharing stories and life lessons from her career as a MuchMusic VJ, record label president, radio executive and more; Michael Wekerle of Dragons' Den and the El Mocambo will participate in the 2nd annual "Startup Launch Pad", a pitch competition for new businesses; and Dan Mangan with "Don't Play By Their Rules: An Artist Guide on How to Market to Fans" panel discussion.
Radio Interactive: International Radio Summit returns to CMW April 19 - 20, 2017 for a deep look into the present and future of broadcasting and related platforms. The Radio Summit brings the industry together to discuss social media, marketing, programming, regulatory issues, and new technology. The Canadian Radio Music Awards will spotlight the best broadcasters and radio personalities, and first-time charting artists hitting the airwaves.
The Digital Media Summit on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 will provide insight into branding, marketing and multi-platform content integration with sessions including "Techniques for Growing a Video Audience", "Music in 360 Video + VR", and "Streaming, Sharing, Stealing." Scott Ross of Virtuosity, who founded the digital Production Company Digital Domain with James Cameron, will be one of the keynote speakers covering his career as a digital pioneer working on films such as Titanic, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Fight Club and O Brother Where Art Thou.
Paul Shaffer will host the second annual Live Music Industry Awards on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. The Live Music Industry Awards celebrate the best in the business with award presentations and live musical performances. Voting is now open at cmw.net/awards/live.
The Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards will be hosted by Jessi Cruickshank on Thursday, April 20, 2017 to celebrate the best and brightest in all fields of the Canadian music and broadcast industries. Previously announced honourees include: RUSH, GEddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart, as the 2017 recipient of the Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award; JAnn Arden and Arthur Fogel will be the 2017 inductees to the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame; and Marilyn Denis will receive the Allan Waters Broadcast Lifetime Achievement Award.
Music Canada and CMW team up to present the Music Cities Summit "The Mastering Of A Music City" on Friday, April 21, 2017. The Music Cities Summit explores the relationship between creative city planning, quality-of-life and the role of music with speakers from municipal governments and music industries from around the world including Toronto Mayor John Tory, Mayor Richard Berry from the City of Albuquerque, and culture curator Tamara Kaminska from Miasto Ogrodow in Poland.
