Award-winning musician Caleb Chapman will celebrate the holidays by bringing his Crescent Super Band and Voodoo Orchestra as well as guest artist Ryan Innes to the SCERA Center for the Arts Dec. 22 at 7 p.m., for a lively Christmas concert.
Chapman, who is also a producer, educator, author and performer, has made a very big name for himself in an unlikely way. He takes talented young musicians, typically from 13 to 18 years old, and trains them in musical styles that range from big band to fusion and soul to swing. His bands have played in prestigious halls worldwide including recent performances in France, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, Italy and Mexico as well as almost every major city in the United States. Notably, his Crescent Super Band, one of his elite ensembles, filled Carnegie Hall in May of 2013.
The youthful performers have been hailed for a nearly "unbelievable performance level" and frequently cited as the top band of their type anywhere in the world.
He and his musicians have played with more than 200 celebrity guest artists, including dozens of Grammy winners and such well-known groups as the Dave Matthews Band, Maroon 5, AC/DC, Neon Trees, Journey, Rolling Stone, the Saturday Night Live Band and Genesis.
Reserved-seat tickets for the event are $12 for adults and $10 for children 3-11 and seniors 65 and older and are available at www.scera.org, by calling (801) 225-ARTS, or in person in person at the SCERA, 745 S. State, Orem.
Much honored, his bands have received 22 DownBeat Awards, and Crescent Super Band has won eight "Best of State" awards in Utah and twice honored with the Best of State Statue Award as the top organization in Arts and Entertainment in Utah. To achieve this they had to top every other professional music, arts, and film group in the state. Additionally his band is Grammy-nominated this year.
"We are thrilled to have Caleb Chapman do a Christmas concert for us," says Adam J. Robertson, SCERA's President and CEO. "What a great, great opportunity to cap the holiday season with something extraordinary."
The concert will feature songs from Chapman's Christmas Albums. Selections will include "Here Comes Santa Claus/Santa Claus is Coming to Town," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "Cool Yule," "Sleigh Ride," "Jingle Bells," "Merry Christmas Baby" and "I'll Be Home for Christmas."
Other selections will be "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," "Boogie Woogie Santa Claus" and "Auld Lang Syne."
