The Ware Center presents a premiere performance that brings music, humor, dance, and visual art together for one beautiful masterpiece titled, Chiaroscuro and Chums, on Wednesday, March 11 at 7:30 pm. Chiaroscuro is certainly not an everyday word but a great descriptor of what we can look forward to on stage. An Italian word for light-dark, Chiaroscuro is the use of strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition. Friends, "Chums" will join together to bring us an never-before-seen performance entertaining our eyes and ears, with pieces that explore opposites taking us from serious to humorous, and beyond.
Sara Male, cello, and Maria Thompson Corley, piano, in collaboration with soprano Kristin Sims and dancer Marian West bring us this new work. Additionally, chum and local photographer and artist, Lori Stahl, will add visual accompaniment to the performance exhibiting a photographic documentary chronicling the 12 year relationship of a young tree that took root & has grown inside a dead tree. Projected during the performance will be a series of Lancaster County during the seasons. The program also includes repertoire by Andre Previn, Valerie Capers, Leos Janacek, and Seymour Barab, including a work with poetry by Toni Morrison.
