Steve Lippia takes his audience back in time with a remarkable combination of his own musical interpretation and the influence of the greatest singers of an incredible era in American music. In Simply Sinatra, he expertly delivers standards permanently engraved in music history including "I've Got You Under My Skin," "The Lady is a Tramp," and "Mack the Knife."
CAPA presents Simply Sinatra at the Southern Theatre (21 E. Main St.) on Friday, March 12, at 8 pm. Tickets are $35 and $30 at the Ohio Theatre Ticket Office (39 E. Lippia is a singer's singer. He has quickly become one of this country's most prominent vocalists and interpreters of classic pop music. His show is a rich, powerful celebration of some of the greatest music this country has ever known - The Great American Song Book.
With a hot, driving band behind him, Lippia moves from crisp, popping swing tunes to lush, poignant ballads with equanimity. He possesses great stage presence - a charm and an ease that immediately endears audiences to him.
His natural sound and style is a remarkable combination of his own honest musical interpretation, combined with influences from some of the best singers of this era. It is immediately apparent that Lippia's sound is reminiscent of a younger Sinatra combined, perhaps, with that of
Harry Connick, Jr. and
Bobby Darin.
But it is clearly Lippia who comes through. His singing reveals a man who truly understands a lyric, in a deeply personal way. Whether delivering a saloon tune at Birdland, the legendary New York City jazz club, or headlining in major symphony halls, Lippia brings to life the music and lyrics of some of the greats such as
Cole Porter,
Harold Arlen,
Sammy Cahn,
Jimmy Van Heusen, and Rodgers and Hart.
His repertoire includes such great standards as "I've Got You Under My Skin," "The Lady Is A Tramp," "Mack The Knife," "Summer Wind," "You Make Me Feel So Young," "That's Life," and "The Best Is Yet To Come."
