Beyonce was this year's headliner at the halftime show in New Orleans, where the Baltimore Ravens won over the San Francisco 49ers. Prior to that, Madonna appeared in 2012, with The Black Eyed Peas, Usher and Slash in 2011. The Who played in 2010.

Grammy-winning singer Mars just won for Best Male Video and Choreography for his single "Treasure" at MTV's 2013 VMAs this August. Mars' second album, Unorthodox Jukebox, was released in 2012 and hit No. 1 in the US, featuring the popular tracks "Treasure", "Locked Out of Heaven" and "When I Was Your Man".

Mars' debut studio album, 2010's Doo-Wops & Hooligans, reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200, with No. 1 singles "Just The Way You Are," "Grenade" and "The Lazy Song". The album was nominated for seven GRAMMY Awards and won for Best Pop Vocal Performance for "Just The Way You Are".
