This August, enjoy another month of summer with highly anticipated new seasons of your favorite shows including Only Murders in the Building and Emily in Paris. Also, you can stream musical movies like Annie or Dear Evan Hanson or prepare for the long-awaiting sequel to Beetlejuice by watching the original Tim Burton film.

Theatre TV & Film

Dear Evan Hanson (August 1, Peacock)

The 2021 film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical features Ben Platt reprising his Tony, Emmy, and Grammy-winning role. The movie also features an all-star cast including Julianne Moore, Amy Adams, Danny Pino, and more.

Annie (August 1, Prime Video)

The 1982 film adaptation of the beloved musical comes to Prime Video. The film stars Carol Burnett, Bernadette Peters, Ann Reinking, Tim Curry, Albert Finney, and Aileen Quinn. The 2014 reimagining starring Jamie Foxx will also be available on the streamer.

Beetlejuice (August 1, Max)

Before the long-awaiting sequel hits theaters in September, revisit the classic Tim Burton movie that inspired the hit Broadway musical. The cast includes Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, Catherine O'Hara, Winona Ryder, and Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice.

Lyle Lyle Crocodile (August 4, Hulu)

Based on the children's book about a crocodile that lives in New York City, this musical film features songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul of Dear Evan Hanson. 

The Bikeriders (August 9, Peacock)

The Bikeriders features an all-star cast including Tony-Award winner Jodie Comer (recently seen on Broadway in Prima Facie), Austin Butler (The Iceman Cometh on Broadway), and Mike Faist (Dear Evan Hanson on Broadway, West Side Story film). After a chance encounter at a local bar, strong-willed Kathy (Comer) is inextricably drawn to Benny (Butler), the newest member of Midwestern motorcycle club the Vandals, led by the enigmatic Johnny (Tom Hardy). 

Emily in Paris Season 4: Part 1 (August 15, Netflix)

After the dramatic events of Camille and Gabriel’s misbegotten wedding, Emily is reeling: She has strong feelings for two men, but now Gabriel’s expecting a baby with his ex, and Alfie’s worst fears about her and Gabriel have been confirmed. The series stars Lily Collins as Emily, along with Ashley Park (Mean Girls, The King and I) as Mindy. Joining in the new season is Rupert Everett who was recently seen in the Broadway revival of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

RuPaul's Drag Race Global All-Stars (August 16, Paramount+)

In this version of the show, twelve drag queens will compete to be the "Queen of the Mothertucking World," with a grand prize award that includes $200,000 and a spot in the international pavilion at the Drag Race Hall of Fame.

Incoming (August 23, Netflix)

Incoming centers on four high school freshmen who are faced with the greatest challenge of their young lives: their first high school party and all the chaos that goes along with it. The cast of the Netflix film includes Ramon Reed (13: The Musical, The Lion King on Broadway) and Tony-nominated actor Bobby Cannavale. Check out the trailer HERE.

In the new season, the trio will spend some time in Los Angeles as this in-universe movie based on the podcast is being developed. At the same time, they attempt to uncover the apparent murder of Sazz Pataki, played by Jane Lynch, who was found dead in the finale of the third season. New cast members for Season 4 include Molly Shannon, Eva LongoriaEugene LevyZach GalifianakisRichard Kind, and more.

Natalie Jacob: Sooner or Later (August 2)

Jazz vocalist Natalie Jacob sings songs from The Great American Songbook and three bossa nova standards by Jobim. Scotty Barnhart on Trumpet, pianist Tamir Hendelman, guitarist Anthony Wilson, bassist Carlitos Del Puerto, drummer Clayton Cameron, and percussionist Kevin Winard. The title of the album borrows its name from a song written by Stephen Sondheim for the 1990 film Dick Tracy, which is also included on the album. Pre-save here.

Sabrina Carpenter, "Short n' Sweet" (August 23)

This new album from pop star Sabrina Carpenter includes recent hit singles Espresso and Please Please Please along with ten other brand-new tracks. Sabrina made her Broadway debut in 2020 as Cady Heron in Mean Girls and is also known for her role in the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World. Short n' Sweet marks her fifth studio album. Pre-save here.
