Brightest Darkest Day, PYYRAMIDS' Debut Album Out Today

The video for "Paper Doll," the first single from Brightest Darkest Day, premieres today here. It was lensed by Ericka Clevenger, who directed the videos for two songs from PYYRAMIDS' 2012 EP,Human Beings.

Blackbook declared Brightest Darkest Day "infectious...the music is warm and tropical even despite its late-night freeway gloss" and Glamour Magazine (UK) hailed the album as an "homage to filth-laced feedback, Karen O and hazy, summer nostalgia," praising the duo for "giving the 90s Sound City revival a sun-soaked, Californian makeover." "Haunting and beautifully textured," was how MSN.com described the band's songs, noting: "Pyyramids is arguably the equal of critical darlings the xx" while Consequence of Sound praised the "dense 'Paper Doll' with its thundering drums" and the "windy, noir-driven pulse of 'That Ain't Right.'"

Introduced by a mutual friend via email, Nordwind and Smith initially bonded over an affinity for first-wave British post-punk and 80's Manchester bands. They began creating songs together, working from their respective homes, and finally met when a tour brought Tim to Chicago. Drea came out to Los Angeles in early 2012 for their first proper recording session and moved to the West Coast before the year was over.

Recorded in Nordwind's basement studio, with the final tracks recorded at Dan Konopka of OK Go's studio, Brightest Darkest Day was mixed by Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, MGMT) and Konopka. It is available as a digital download or - at shows and here - on cassette with a digital download.
