Brandi Carlile will make her Walt Disney Concert Hall debut in a one-time special concert event titled Songs Are Like Tattoos which will feature Carlile performing Joni Mitchell's 1971 album Blue on Monday, October 14, 2019. Tickets go on sale Friday, April 12, at 10:00 AM PST.
Says Carlile: "Blue might very well be the best album ever made. I feel the need to play this masterpiece in its entirety so that I can honor Joni Mitchell and the way this album brought me into myself, but also so that I can hear it live too! My soul will be listening alongside yours.
If Joni is right and "songs are like tattoos," then these songs are an indelible part of our collective story and coming of age. 'Part of you pours out of me in these lines from time to time.' Let's do Blue. Hearts on sleeves and voices raised.
Let's do this one for Joni."
Carlile recently won Grammy Awards® for Best Americana Album for her 2018 album By The Way, I Forgive You, as well Best American Roots Performance and Best American Roots Song for the album's single "The Joke," which she performed during the live broadcast. Over the course of their acclaimed career, Carlile and her band have released six albums, including 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter, which garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album. In 2017, the band released Cover Stories: Brandi Carlile Celebrates 10 Years of The Story (An Album to Benefit War Child), which features 14 artists, including Dolly Parton, Adele, Pearl Jam, Kris Kristofferson, The Avett Brothers, Margo Price, and Jim James - with a forward written by Barack Obama - covering the songs on Carlile's 2007 breakthrough album The Story.
