The Bones of Cork will make a rare public appearance at the Cork Jazz Festival. They are all in the same place for the first time in 5 years and are doing a gig in Coughlan's on Sunday 26th October 9pm. This will be a lively celebration and is sure to bring the roof down! As well as standards they will play some new arrangements by Cormac McCarthy and Paul Frost.
The consists of five jazz trombonists and rhythm section from Cork, who ply their trade world wide. The group was formed to play at the official closing ceremony of Cork 2005 European Capital of Culture, in City Hall Cork, New Years Eve 2005. They have all been influenced by the legendary Cork born trombonist Bobby Lamb.
The Bones of Cork play exciting jazz standards and originals arranged by some of the UK's top writers. The line up consists of Michael Marshall, Eoghan Kelly, Eoin Nash, Paul Dunlea on Trombones Paul Frost on Bass Trombone With Steve Kelly (Drums) Phil Collins (Piano), and Rory Dempsey (Bass). The band has gone on to play a number of high profile gigs including Cork Jazz Festival 2006/2007 and The Lord Mayors Gala Charity Concert and the inaugral concert in Evelyn Grant's Open House series at the Cork School of Music. Individually the members of the group have played with artists as diverse as Phil Woods, Curtis Fuller, Benny Golson, Buddy Greco, Sir John Dankworth, Rufus Reid, Tim Garland, Syd Lawrence Orchestra, Glenn Miller UK Big Band and the Back To Basie Big Band. Collectively, they are earning a reputation as one of Irelands most exciting live jazz acts with a rare and original line-up.
