Steve Forbert wrote "I Blinked Once" in 1987 and released it on the 1988 Geffen Records album Streets Of This Town. "It was one of the easiest songs that I have ever written," says Steve. "I got up in the middle of the night and wrote it by moonlight. I recorded it at Garry Tallent's Shorefire Studio in Long Branch, NJ. Now almost 30 years later, John Oates and Bekka Bramlett have recorded their version in Nashville, TN, produced by Oates and David Kalmusky at Addiction Studios."

Asked about the single, John Oates said: "It was very cool for me to be able to re-imagine Steve Forbert's song 'I Blinked Once.' I was drawn to his great lyrics and ability to take a simple idea and craft it into a memorable song. We gave it a harder edge in the production and turned it into a duet with myself and the legendary Bekka Bramlett, whose energy is a thing to behold."

Adds Steve Forbert: "Thanks to John Oates for putting his legendary stamp on 'I Blinked Once' and for taking the time from his busy schedule to film a video. Oates' cover is a great way to kick off An American Troubadour album and teaming up with Bekka Bramlett was a wonderful choice (as I have enjoyed working with her in Nashville myself). My thanks go to Blue Rose Music for putting together this entirely flattering compilation!"

Joe Poletto, Founder of Blue Rose Music comments: "We are thrilled to release the first single 'I Blinked Once,' from the upcoming An American Troubadour: The Songs Of Steve Forbert album. There is so much depth to Steve's words and music and we're honored to have Rock N' Roll Hall of Famer John Oates and his fine collaborator Bekka Bramlett cover 'I Blinked Once.' Their take on this classic Forbert tune captures the spirit of Steve and this release marks the first of many wonderful covers to be found in the record. We are proud to share this troubadour album with all of Steve's fans around the world."
