Bloodboy Delivers Punk Inspired Synth Pop Gem With 'Important To The World'

Bloodboy is the artistic identity of San Clemente, CA born, Los Angeles based Lexie Papilion, a powerhouse with post-bunk band origins, who's ready to take the world by storm with her fierce, fiery vocals and rebellious pop star attitude. Today, she unleashed her electric new single, "Important To The World" following its premiere via The FADER. The Magazine hailed the brand new track as "crazy good" and "punk spirited synth pop," also noting the singer as a hybrid of Christine & The Queens and Joan Jett. The song was co-produced by Justin Raisen (Sky Ferreira, Charli XCX, Angel Olsen) and is available today on iTunes, Apple Musicand Spotify. Listen to the new single HERE.

The origin of the name Bloodboy came during Lexie's stint in a post punk band that stuck with her after she embarked on a solo career. Originally the name was pegged as an "A&R nightmare" but something about it connected with the singer. "It stuck with me," she says, "it's obviously polarizing and I wanted that."

At the heart of Bloodboy is a theme. Question what is expected. Walk the ledge of possibility. "So many people feel restricted and for so many reasons," Lexie concludes. "I've thrown those restrictions to the wind to say, 'I don't know if this is going to sound exactly the way I want it to, but I'm going to let everything peek through and see what happens.'"

While she played the piano from the age of 5 and wrote what she characterized as "little songs," "San Clemente was a small town, very safe, very conservative," she explains. In other words-not a place where nice girls move to Los Angeles to write songs called "f Yourself" and "Mom, I've changed."

It wasn't until she started collaborating with songwriter-producer King Henry (Beyoncé, Major Lazer, Weeknd) that she began to envision a career in music. "He helped my confidence, getting me comfortable in collaborating with people," she explains. "Up until then it had been me in my room with a laptop on Garage Band, the relationship was a very integral part of helping me develop as an artist."

Fast forward to today and Bloodboy is putting out some of the most exciting and exuberant pop music around. In describing the meaning of the song to The FADER, Lexie explains "As human beings, we have an innate need to be validated, whether it's emotionally, physically, professionally, etc," she says. "This particular experience was about someone who constantly told me how fing great I was and, subsequently, I confused that validation and my reciprocal need for it with romantic feelings that weren't actually there. I just liked being told I was awesome. I think, often times, we spend so long seeking validation that once we finally receive it, it becomes addictive. We see it with social media, people in power, etc., and it can be dangerous when you're so wrapped up in the literal and proverbial 'likes' that you lose sight of what is actually important in the world."
