"...thrilling...What separates Bloc Party from too many other postpunk revivalists is that their music holds a spirit of urgency that's matched by a gift for scrambling their sources. The band conjures frenzy with neat strategies that keep unleashing surprises: steady drumbeats that sporadically burst into a gallop and guitar parts that juggle blunt chords, glassy high notes, fierce scrabbling tremolos and sudden jabs. And just when the music threatens to become pure propulsion, a melody line appears." - The New York Times, April 9 2005

"This is a solid, intelligent album that a lot of people will love... you start to feel like this is what it might have been like to listen to the Police or XTC in the early 80s; the sound of a straight-up rock band just a shade more sophisticated, and a little more interested in rhythm, than most of their peers." SCORE: 8.9 - Pitchfork, February 14 2005

"Silent Alarm is set to be a smash." - Paper, March 2005

"Bloc Party: #1 New Band! Are Bloc Party the only new band that matters? On the basis of the group's debut album, Silent Alarm, the answer is definitely maybe." -Interview, March 2005

"London's Bloc Party achieve...manic bliss on nearly every track of their superb long-playing debut...Pointed pop tunes yelp and cry and tug at your heart even as the band's rhythmic friction spews sparks at your feet. Singer Okereke is black and Tong is of Asian descent, and together with their pale mates they distill twenty-five years of spiky British rock, from the Cure to Blur to hot Scots Franz Ferdinand." -Rolling Stone, March 24, 2005

"...Silent Alarm not only justifies the buzz around Bloc Party, it looks set to take the band to a whole new level upon its release this month. Sounding like the soundtrack to the best house party you've ever been to, the record shimmers with frenetic, schizophrenic gem-like songs." - Nylon, March 2005

"Bloc Party has the British breathless...Shocked you've never heard of them? Don't be. Their debut, Silent Alarm, isn't out here till March 22nd. The real shocker? It lives up to the hype." - Newsweek, March 7, 2005

"Silent Alarm reveals a group nearly impossible to pigeonhole, with spiky-sharp chords needling in places, while swatches of romantic guitars moon and swoon like the Smiths in others." - Alternative Press, March 2005

"The British quartet's debut had us at hello." - Entertainment Weekly, March 18, 2005

"...exuberant and edgy. It wells with anger and it mopes like an English major. It slams about on some songs, cushions the blows on others. Raises hopes, dashes dreams. In short, it is the sort of disquieting rock album that gets your attention." -The Washington Post, April 7 2005

"...there's an angular beauty to Bloc Party's music and live, these songs get the breathing room they deserve." - Boston Globe, April 7 2005

"...it's difficult to sit still while listening to Silent Alarm, one of the young year's best debuts...transformed audiences from chin-stroking observers to madly dancing participants." - Chicago Tribune, March 25 2005

"Silent Alarm sounds Bloc Party's arrival with the propulsive rhythms of the agitated opener 'Like Eating Glass' and keeps up the breakneck pace for much of the CD." -People Magazine, May 25, 2007

"Rarely has romance sounded so expensively, and expansively, sad." - Spin, #6 in Top 40 of 2005 list, January 2006
