Billboard Premieres New Video from Boydos Image

Sydney's Boydos has premiered "a wonderfully chaotic visual" for his debut single "Plans" at Billboard. The man behind the indie rock madness - Eddie Boyd - says the song is about "telling yourself you're going to get your s together but not really going out of your way to do anything about it." Boydos has just signed to Cooking Vinyl Australia (John Prine, Gogol Bordello, At The Drive In) and is already receiving key support from Aussie tastemaker, triple j.

Growing up in the Blue Mountains, Eddie Boyd spent his youth busking before studying classical guitar and touring the world as guitarist for Julia Jacklin. Between tours, Boyd considers himself a "glorified kitchenhand, but I get to wear the chef shirt." This sort of gallows humor resonates through his lyrics. Delivering the observations of Kurt Vile and Lou Reed with a dose of adrenalin, his music is beautifully gritty and contagiously agitated.

Boyd deems the themes of procrastination and self-doubt "pretty common for people in their mid-twenties" and boldly confronts their frequenters, himself included: Friends who hope their girlfriend or parents will help cover the rent this month. Friends who use other friends as a yardstick for their own behavior, calculating that they've got a few f-ups left before reaching the grand total of someone else's.

"I got concepts, I got ideas, I got notebooks full of writing / I got hardbacks, I got softbacks / I got friends and they've got contacts / I got hours, I got next year / I got mail I haven't read yet / I got projects, I got projects..."

"Plans" was recorded in the New Zealand studio of producer Ben Edwards (Marlon Williams, Aldous Harding, Nadia Reid, Julia Jacklin). To celebrate the release of "Plans," Boydos will play single launch shows in Melbourne and Sydney starting this month.
