Biffy Clyro are back with a bang. Their new album Ellipsis still commands a Top 10 chart position in their native U.K., after shooting straight to #1, upon release. Their growing international success also saw the album top the charts in Germany, Switzerland and Ireland.
Biffy Clyro now has their sights set on the USA. "Howl", will be the first American video from Ellipsis and the superstar trio will unveil the brand new video on their Facebook page beginning today.
The new video is a light-hearted homage to The Shining and David Lynch. In the short film Biffy Clyro enter a bar; events take a seemingly lysergic, twisted trip in which they're surrounded by a cast of unusual characters: creepy twin sisters, burlesque dancers, a sinister, eye-patched barman and a particularly Twin Peaks-esque band. All three band members feature in bizarre reinventions. The video was directed by Marc Klasfeld, whose previous credits include famous videos for Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Slipknot.
Ellipsis was produced by Rich Costey who was chosen on the strength of his work with Muse, My Chemical Romance, Sigur Ros, Fiona Apple, etc., "Howl" is representative of Biffy Clyro's self-confessed rewiring with Ellipsis. It streamlines their sound into a rush of melody and a strident, stadium-conquering hook in which its uplifting atmosphere contrasts with the darker themes of vocalist/guitarist Simon Neil's lyrics.
The band's growth with Ellipsis can be firmly demonstrated with a forthcoming triumvirate of shows which represent some of the biggest of their career. Sandwiched between their second U.K. headline sets at the Reading and Leeds Festivals over the course of the August bank holiday weekend is their biggest Scottish show to date at Glasgow's Bellahouston Park. Part of this year's Glasgow Summer Sessions, the 35,000 capacity show features special guests Fall Out Boy, Wolf Alice and Cage The Elephant.
In addition to the aforementioned dates, Biffy Clyro's touring plans include European festivals at Pukkelpop, Lowlands, Open Air Gambel and Spellground Festival, as well as arena shows in Germany, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Poland and Estonia.
Prior to the new video for "Howl", Biffy Clyro issued two video clips overseas for the first pair of U.K. singles for the tracks "Wolves of Winter" and "Animal Style".
