On Friday, July 15th at 8pm, AN EVENING OF Rosemary Clooney, a new musical program created and performed by Becca McCoy and La Lucha, premieres at the Palladium Side Door to kick off the Summer Jazz Series.

With a varied and indefatigable career spanning six decades, from a GRAMMY-nominated chart-topper to a masterful interpreter of the American Songbook, Rosemary Clooney was one of America's musical treasures. AN EVENING OF Rosemary Clooney brings La Lucha and Becca McCoy together formally for the first time, having previously performed selections together at the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance's MUSE Awards in 2015 and 2016. Becca's "firm mezzo" (Elkhart Truth) and "larger-than-life voice" (Goshen News) and La Lucha's "high regard for style" (The Examiner) both evoke and pay tribute to this preeminent and once-in-a-lifetime performer (full program repertoire below).

"Strong-voiced" (Chicago Sun-Times) Becca McCoy is a proud native of St. Petersburg, who now lives in Gulfport, and who has been seen on stages locally and nationwide. She is known to Tampa Bay audiences for her cabarets and her recent critically-acclaimed performance as the Lady of the Lake in American Stage in the Park's SPAMALOT. She appeared in DISENCHANTED! as Sleeping Beauty, for which she won the Broadway World Tampa award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, and as Brooke, the working mom, in MOTHERHOOD THE MUSICAL, both performed for extended runs in the Jaeb Theatre at the Straz Center. Becca went on to perform the role of Brooke in MOTHERHOOD THE MUSICAL in two other states, and was then brought into GFOUR Productions' other smash-hit, MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL, which she has performed in Reno, Nevada, upstate New York, Bradenton, Florida, and on national tour. She has performed locally with A Simple Theatre, American Stage, and freeFall Theatre Company, and nationally at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre in Chicago, IL; The Wick Theatre in Boca Raton, FL; Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in Auburn, NY; and many more. Becca was the recipient of the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance's inaugural MUSE People's Choice Award in 2014, and has been awarded in musical theatre nationally by Young Arts (formerly the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts), and the National Society of Arts and Letters. La Lucha is a Tampa Bay based trio that consists of three best friends from three different parts of the world; Colombia, Mexico & United States. Its members are Alejandro Arenas, bass; John O'Leary, piano; and Mark Feinman, drums. Their repertoire is a diverse mixture of Latin inspired rhythms with Jazz standards, twisted arrangements of pop songs and original compositions. Each member of the trio has extensive national and international performance experience, including a tour of Italy and France with performances at the "Umbria Jazz Festival" and "Jazz a Juan" in Juan Les Pins. La Lucha creates music that transcends genres and classifications. They consider music to be live art, which will continue to breathe, grow and evolve with their commitment to it. La Lucha was awarded Creative Loafing's "Best of the Bay Jazz Ensemble" in 2013, 2014 & 2015; the "Think Small to Think Big Grant," by Creative Pinellas; featured presenters at TEDxTampa Bay (2014) & TEDxUSF (2015); and were recently honored by a grant from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, to present a multi- media project raising awareness for Alzheimer's disease. Their debut album, "A Cup of Fuzzy Water" was released in 2009 and their second self-titled album was released in June 2012. Their third album, "Standards, Not-Standards," featuring vocalist Jun, was released January, 6th 2015 on Blue Line Music. Learn more at LaLuchaMusic.com.
