Chuck Prophet describes his new disc BOBBY FULLER DIED FOR YOUR SINS (Feb 2017) as "California Noir." He says, "The state has always represented the Golden Dream, and it's the tension between romance and reality that lurks underneath the surface in all noir films and paperbacks, and that connects these songs. Doomed love, inconsolable loneliness, rags to riches to rags again, and fast-paced violence are always on the menu on the Left Coast." Who is Bobby Fuller? He's the star of the ultimate Rock and Roll Babylon feel-bad story.

In a world where drum machines and computer sounds dominate the musical landscape, Ellisa Sun aims to create genuine music with soul. Raised in the city of angels and now calling the San Francisco Bay Area home, Ellisa has found inspiration in artists such as Amy Winehouse, Lauryn Hill, Sam Cooke, and Feist. She blends old time soul music with R&B and more worldly influences like bossanova. This unique blend of genres has garnished some notoriety from local critics; Ellisa was named a top emerging artist by SF Deli magazine and SF Weekly called her song "Unravel" "as near to perfect as any song could be" and "damn gorgeous." She released her debut album in April of 2017.

Mari Mack started singing as a toddler, indoctrinated with love for jazz and big band by her father; blues, rock, gospel and R&B from her older siblings. Before the age of 18, she was paying her dues, singing rock, R&B and blues in clubs all over the NY area. After a post-gig auto accident that totaled her car and left her without a scratch, she thanked her lucky stars and took it as a sign to make a change in her lifestyle. "I was very lonely, my family was fractured and my mom lived out in San Francisco, so I packed my bags and headed out west. I figured that I would just stay there for a few weeks and then head down to LA to make films, but that never happened." Mari Mack & Livin' Like Kings is a soulful blues rooted rock band from Northern California formed by Mari Mack (vocals) and Arne Frager (producer.)

The 2017 lineup features a diverse range of acts, spanning genres like R&B, electronic, folk, musical theatre, and more. Returning artists include crowd favorites the Q Brothers, whose "ad-rap-tations" of classic plays have toured the world to international acclaim. They are presenting two full-length exclusive performances of the critically acclaimed theatrical show, "Othello: The Remix," which has played to sold-out audiences in Chicago and New York. Also back for a second year is the Bay Area based live-electronic quartet NVO, whose fusion of bass-heavy rock, sci-fi funk and rave-hop kept the crowd dancing all night long at last year's fest.

In The Valley Below will bring their seductively compelling mix of dream pop and bluesy rock, blending ethereal vocals and atmospheric guitars under our tall pines and starry skies. The Bay Area's own Afrolicious will deliver their signature brand of soulful electronic dance music to our neck of the (actual) woods. Solo artist Chris Ayer mixes the best of groovy-pop-soul-funk-folk-Americana. Rolling in all the way from NYC is Lohai, a new soul-pop collaboration between Alita Moses and Devon Yesberger (of the Caleb Hawley Band) represent the best of the prolific Brooklyn music scene. Former subway busker and gnarly one-man band Zack Orion will be arriving with his Appalachia meets the A Train, rollicking, banjo-laden tunes. Minus the D presented by the irreverent comedy team, The Retar Crew, is best known for absurd, debaucherous YouTube music videos. The guys of Red Letter Day may be teenagers, but their music is sure to strike a chord with folks of all ages. Collaborators Jack Symes and Nat Lekoff will be merging their distinct solo musical styles with some laid-back, West Coast, lyrical goodness. Finally, we present our Bear Music Fest 2017 resident DJ. For almost a decade, DJ SuperNova has consistently brought skill, sophistication and positive energy to his nightclub and college bookings as well as his events worldwide. He takes great pride in curating memorable sets, whether his clients want Hip-Hop, Top 40, EDM, Latin, Classics or Reggae.
