BMI Announces Programming for Sundance Film Festival Image

BMI® (Broadcast Music, Inc.®) is proud to announce it's programming at this year's Sundance Film Festival featuring the 21st edition of the Composer and Director Roundtable "Music & Film: The Creative Process," on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019 at the Kimball Arts Center, followed by the 17th annual BMI Snowball on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019 at The Shop. Both the Composer and Director Roundtable and Snowball showcase exemplify BMI's focus on nurturing and sustaining relationships with emerging and established artist.

For the past two decades, BMI's signature roundtable panel has become a cornerstone event at the Festival, which explores the role of music in film and focuses on the relationship between composer and director. This year's panelists include Director of the Sundance Institute Film Music Program Peter Golub; composer Mandy Hoffman and director Minhal Baig (Hala); composer Jon Ekstrand and director May el-Toukhy (Queen of Hearts); composer Blake Neely and director Ryan White (Ask Dr. Ruth); composer Heather McIntosh and director Martha Stephens (To the Stars); and composer Will Bates (The Inventor) and (Sound of Silence). As moderator, Doreen Ringer-Ross, BMI's Vice President of Film, TV & Visual Media Relations, will guide the conversation as participants discuss what goes into producing a successful film score and the ingredients of a productive creative relationship.

"Our longstanding partnership with the Sundance Institute Film Music Program underscores our relentless commitment to nurturing the next generation of composers and this panel is just one of the many ways we do that. It gives our composers a platform to discuss their latest works and offers attendees an insider's look into the creative process that goes into film scoring," said Ringer-Ross.

This year's BMI music showcase presents an eclectic all-star female roster with a special headlining act to be announced soon. The evening will include performances from S-Curve Records/BMG recording artist Neyla Pekarek (formerly of The Lumineers), along with the soulful voice of Hailey Knox a S-Curve Records/BMG recording artist and Brooklyn born and bred composer Tamar-kali. BMI's Snowball showcase has featured a phenomenal mixture of buzzworthy and iconic artists at the Festival. Memorable performances have included Rita Wilson, Devo, Death Cab for Cutie, Dawes, John Paul White, Christina Perri, KT Tunstall, Beck, Angela McCluskey, Rosanne Cash, Cheap Trick, Percy Sledge, Donovan, Robert Randolph, Terence Blanchard, Keb Mo, among others.
