Award Winning Country Singer-Songwriter Crystal Yates to Release New Album This May

County and roots artist Crystal Yates will release her next album, to be titled "The Other Side", in late May 2016. This 3rd studio album from Yates will include her original compositions, along with several other collaborations which include hit writer and longtime Bluebird Cafe host Barbara Cloyd (I Guess You Had To Be There), Dove award winners Jennie Riddle (Revelation Song) and Richie Fike (We Believe) and others.

"The Other Side" will feature an array of talented musicians, most notably, drummer McKenzie Smith at the producer's helm along with Crystal and her multi-instrumentalist husband Will. The in-demand Smith, who has been the drummer for the folk-rock band Midlake since their inception, has also recently served as the producer for artists such as Sarah Jaffe, Alejandro Escovedo, Mountain Natives, among others. "I've known McKenzie for quite a few years." says Yates. "And I had been quietly watching all of the work he was doing for these other artists, and I thought it was so creative and wonderful." Even though Smith is more well known in the indie and psychedelic-folk worlds, she said she "just had a hunch about working with him." Yates' husband Will describes the sonic craftings of The Other Side as "Merle Haggard meets Etta James and Mary Gauthier."

Yates, who was crowned the national winner in the 2014 Texaco Country Showdown, the longest-running music competition, saw her last album "I Believe" produced by Charlie Peacock (The Civil Wars, Holly Williams) rocket up the iTunes charts debuting at #13 on its release day. Since then, she's had a more than full schedule; touring across the US and opening for and performing with dozens of artists such as Martina McBride, Joe Ely, John Conlee, Suzy Bogguss, Sam Baker, Deana Carter, and many more, as well as performing at reknown venues such as the Sundance Film Festival, SXSW, The Bluebird Cafe, and the Ryman Auditorium.
