"We're looking at a little bit of chord soloing over a blues today and I'm going to rely on my jazz background for this lick that I'm going to teach you", says MacLennan. Jon explains that it is over a G7 chord and he starts out with a G7 Triad that consists of the 7th fret of the 3rd string with his 2nd finger, 6th fret of the 2nd string with his first finger and the 7th fret of the first string with his 3rd finger. Jon slides into the triad from a half step below and follows that with the 3rd fret of the first string with his first finger to the 6th fret of the 2nd string with his 4th finger. Next is a G13 chord which he also slides into from one half step below and follows that with the 8th fret of the first string with his 4th finger and then 5th fret of the 4th and 3rd strings with his 3rd finger. Next is a tri-tone that consists of the 2nd fret of the 4th string with first finger and 3rd fret of the 3rd string with 2nd finger which he slides up one half step and follows it with 5th fret of the 5th and 4th strings with his 3rd finger. Finally Jon finishes it off with a G#7 (G sharp 7) and slides down to a G7. Guitar TAB's are available for this cool blues guitar lesson at BluesGuitar.com.
