Anna Shoemaker Releases Debut EP EAST SIDE Image

23-year-old Anna Shoemaker creates music that propels her well beyond the realm of singer/songwriter. Drawing elements of indie-pop, alt-rock, R&B, and hip-hop combined with her dreamy, hypnotic vocals, Shoemaker has created a unique hybrid that undoubtedly stands out.

Shoemaker released her debut EP, East Side, in September of 2018. The EP was recorded with GRAMMY-nominated producer JT Daly (nominated in 2018 for K.Flay's "Blood In The Cut") in his Nashville studio.

Shoemaker has already worked with many noteworthy visual artists to help catapult her musical career. She recently shot with legendary photographer, Elaine Constantine (Vogue, Vanity Fair, Gucci and Burberry). Shoemaker was also photographed by Max Papendieck, acclaimed fashion photographer (Gigi Hadid, Adriana Lima, Maybelline, Vanity Fair, and Vogue Australia). Her music videos have all been shot by up and coming videographers, like Jasper Soloff (PAPER, DAZED, Milk.xyz) and Thrice Cooked Media (New York Fashion Week, IMG, FADER Magazine). Shoemaker signed to 5Towns Records in late 2017 when she was chosen as Steve Madden's Emerging Artist of the Year. Additionally, she was featured in the Steve Madden global fall ad campaign for GenSteve.

Raised in Philadelphia, now New York based, Shoemaker credits the expansive Philly independent music scene and her college experience with influencing her writing. While at the University of Colorado, the budding artist would perform with just her acoustic guitar, which led to the alt-rock/pop sound that is embedded into her music today. Once Shoemaker moved back to Philadelphia, she incorporated elements of the city's underground hip hop and R&B scene. Shoemaker masterfully blends both R&B and indie to create her signature sound today.

It was her stripped down interpretation of a few of her favorite hip-hop tracks that helped catapult Shoemaker's budding career. Recorded on her childhood bedroom floor in Philadelphia and released exclusively on SoundCloud, "No Lie, Bitch Don't Kill My Cocoa Butter Kisses" is a mash-up of Kendrick Lamar's "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe," and Chance The Rapper's "Cocoa Butter Kisses." To date, the mashup has 750K plays on SoundCloud. At the end of 2017, Shoemaker released an accompanying VHS-shot music video (filmed by Chloe Corner) which caught the attention of key press tastemakers, such as Office Magazine, The Deli NY, and Pop Dust.

On her debut EP it is clear that songwriting comes naturally to Shoemaker. She finds putting pen to paper is often the best way to process her emotions, thus creating raw and honest lyricism that will certainly define Shoemaker's releases. Prior to the EP release, the singer has been teasing her fans with stripped down versions with some of her upcoming music. The series titled "Bedroom Demos" was released exclusively on SoundCloud and has already garnered over 40K cumulative plays.

Shoemaker has started to make her mark as an emergent live artist. She closed out last year with a supporting slot for alt-pop songstress Bishop Briggs' show at Music Hall of Williamsburg and has graced the stages of Firefly Festival, Sofar Sounds, Mercury Lounge, Bowery Electric, The Box, and Communion Music's monthly showcase at Rockwood Music Hall.

Anna Shoemaker's journey may only be beginning, but she is quickly lining herself up as an emerging artist to watch.
