Following his performance at New York City's Carnegie Hall on December 12, Andrew Bird returns to the road this winter for a run of dates with The Lumineers. See below for a complete list of dates.
Bird also recently performed alongside Fiona Apple for "Live from the Great Room," a new, ongoing series of Facebook Live performances. Watch the most recent performance below:
Streamed live from Bird's living room, the weekly series puts the creative process on display for fans as Bird performs and converses with friends and collaborators in a candid, intimate setting. Previous guests include Matt Berninger of The National, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Jimbo Mathus of the Squirrel Nut Zippers, Chris Thile, Blake Mills, John C. Reilly and Tom Brosseau.
Says Bird of the new series, "I bring in musicians that I think will push me into interesting territory. I've always been about showing the process and the never ending quest to get to the heart of a song." He goes on to explain, "I've been on a quest to project an inner private world out into space to see what bounces back and that feedback tells me what to do next. From my living room to Carnegie Hall to a canyon in Utah to churches and synagogues, it's all about playing to the room."
In reviewing the series, Nerdist notes, "Watching these musicians figuring how to perform each other's music is a treat, but seeing them be friends is infinitely more fascinating...seeing them reminisce about common experiences adds depth to what could simply be half-hour of #content on a Facebook Live stream. They are aware of their invisible audience but they don't let that stiffen the experience. Instead, they are performing for each other."
Chicago-based film score composer, multi-instrumentalist and lyricist, Andrew Bird picked up his first violin at the age of four and spent his formative years soaking up classical repertoire completely by ear. As a teen Bird became interested in a variety of styles including early jazz, country blues and gypsy music, synthesizing them into his unique brand of pop. Since beginning his recording career in 1997, he has released 12 albums, his first solo record Weather Systems coming in 2003.
