Anchorsong Releases 'Foreign Rivers/Ancestors (Souleance Remix)' Image

"Foreign River / Ancestors (Souleance Remix)" is the latest single from Cohesion, the third album from Tokyo-born, London-based electronic producer Anchorsong (aka Masaaki Yoshida).

The sound of water in "Foreign River" which hints to Yoshida's fascination with the watery quality of the Tabla, is paired with the French-funky remix of "Ancestors" by the Parisian partnership of producer Fulgeance and DJ Soulist, as Souleance. The latter premiered at XLR8R and the dual remix is out today via Tru Thoughts. Enjoy via your favorite DSP HERE.

Inspired by traditional Indian percussion and '70s and '80s Bollywood film soundtracks, Cohesion is a psychedelic, danceable and free-spirited listen that blurs the boundary between rhythm and melody. Since releasing upfront singles "Testimony", "Mindscape" and "Ancestors", praise for Cohesion has continued to grow with vocal support from BBC 6Music, who playlisted "Testimony" along with making Cohesion their Album of the Day.

Other airplay includes across BBC Radio 1, BBC 1Xtra, BBC Asian Network, Worldwide FM, KCRW, Radio X, FIP and Triple J; premieres and online support from Clash, Magnetic Magazine, PopMatters and Bandcamp Daily, NMEJapan, Rolling Stone Japan and print reviews from Q Magazine, DJ Mag, Songlines and The Hindu add to a guest mix for Tom Ravenscroft (BBC 6Music), guest show on NTS and most recently taking on the challenge of FACT Magazine's 'Against the Clock'.

In "Foreign Rivers" Masaaki uses the sound of falling water unified with the unyielding flowing percussion as a backdrop, to which he paints with added effects and interprets with his idiosyncratic global-inspired keys. The track is pushed forward by the beat of the river, washing over the listener like a soundscape tide. "Ancestors", lifted as one of the lead singles from Cohesion, blurs the borders between melody and rhythm.

Souleance apply their funk/tropical touch to the track; harnessing the percussiveness and steel drums. The duo add a different twist from the original, amping up the tempo and bass, while restoring the root-vibe of the track, with its rawness and deepness. Applying their French funky vibes, known as the Souleance sound, the pair rework the song with a ride cymbal and jazz riddim, giving the remix a deep ambiance that is also dance-floor ready. In the words of the artist; "Since we heard the steel drums, we felt this one could have a tropical touch, and also a club/dance thing, keeping a low tempo vibe, and once again a percussive touch."

Hailing from Paris, Souleance is the project of Fulgeance & DJ Soulist, a mixture of Soulist's organic influences, and Fulgeance producer know how and malice. Souleance released a two-track EP titled François late last year on First Word Records - with lead single "Sète" picking up support from Gilles Peterson and Tom Ravenscroft (BBC 6Music), as well as overall press coverage from Nova, XLR8R, Bonafide, Ransom Note and Clash. Having just released a 'Tribute To Galt MacDermot' - a legendary composer, who was a vital influence to the group, the duo have also announced their latest LP, French Cassette out Feb this year.

Uncovering the live potential of his latest project, Anchorsong has recently finished his UK Cohesion tour with a string quartet and live AV, creating immersive and unforgettable electronic music live in front of an audience using an MPC and keyboard.
