The newest work by renowned musician and producer Martin Fuks (Macaco, King Changó, Lenine, David Byrne), brought new air to the world-music scene, linking tango with down-tempo and break -beat, stringing together music from far-off, remote places, such as the Far East and the Mediterranean Sea.
After 20 years living in Spain, he moved back to Buenos Aires in 2005, and started digging in the local Tango scene. In 2009 he began composing, along with singer Sofia Juan, the songs for a long dreamed project, the alchemy between the urban sound of Tango and the new tendencies in the Electro-Pop scene. The result it's an amazing journey, in the line of the well-known Electro Tango projects, such as Gotan Project or Bajofondo, but crossing the line of the instrumental-oriented pieces, letting the music fly with the songs.
The band has been touring since 2009 in a duo format, just Sofía and Martin, playing in several venues in Europe, South America and the USA. Now Amapola Dry is performing with a five-piece band (drums, uprightbass, live electronics, violin, voices), and a strong staging based in the live interactive video projections.
The album was recorded between Buenos Aires and New York City, getting from each place it inherent magic: the heart and Tango soul from Buenos Aires, and the groove and powerful sound from the Big Apple. The final magic was conceived in New York, where Pablo Arraya took control of the mixes. Pablo is an amazing Sound Engineer, with an extended career and an impressive list of credits behind him (www.pabloarraya.com). Jay Franco mastered the album at SterlingSound.
Amapola Dry EP is available from iTunes, Amazon and all major online record stores.
