Alex Ebert, singer, songwriter, composer and front man of Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, has released his video for the track "Broken Record" via Paper Magazine. The video was shot & edited by Alex in New Orleans and animation done by RUFFMERCY (Run the Jewels, Flying Lotus, Disclosure).
Alex tells Paper: "Despite my history of surrounding myself with crowds of wonderful musicians, and despite my interest in all things communal, I am more or less married to the lonerishness of solitary work - which is the reason my romantic relationships inevitably disintegrate, just as the relationship that inspired Broken Record disintegrated. And yet they disintegrate so that I can integrate ever more with my muse...whatever that may be. I think this video captures some of that oddball solitude. Those dawnish hours alone on the street. Those late nights of lonesomeness that force you to summon your muse for company. I was inspired to do a video with Ruff Mercy because to me it has that same sort of personal freedom that only comes from handmade things done in some kind of solitude. And yet he lives in London. So instead of flying there I just spent a few nights and mornings shooting myself in total solitude, doing those things you might not otherwise think to do in the presence of others. Its a bittersweet thing, being lonesome - emphasis on sweet, for that lonesomeness is responsible for that extra bit of handmade intimacy in art that is simply not possible otherwise."Recently, Alex Ebert released his first new single since his 2011 solo album Alexander, "Broken Record."
