Alex Ebert, singer, songwriter, composer and front man of Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, premiered his new single "Joy Is My Armor" via Relix today. The track will be available for streaming and purchase on Friday, July 14. Watch and share the visualizer here.
Alex Ebert explains the story behind the track to Relix: "This is one of those "what ever happened to that one song" songs that my friends would ask me about. I thought it was just lost forever. But then, about a month ago while rummaging through old stuff for a documentary, I found the entire session (along with a lost EP from way back in 2004 by "Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros" which I will eventually put out). Joy Is My Armor just still felt entirely relevant, so I dusted it off, added a bridge, mixed it, and here it is. Glad it's finally going to see the world."
Ebert was born in Los
Angeles in 1978 and currently resides in New Orleans, LA. In 2011, he released his first solo album as Alexander. In 2014, Alex Ebert won the Golden Globe for Best Original Score to J.C. Chandor's film All Is Lost starring Robert Redford. He followed that up by scoring Chandor's next film A Most Violent Year. Additionally, he scored the Oscar winning Disney animated short Feast. Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros released their fourth studio album in April 2016, followed by an international tour including stops at Coachella and Newport Folk Fest.
Recently, Alex Ebert released his first new single since his 2011 solo album Alexander, "Broken Record." Purchase "Broken Record" via
