Alex Day, the independent musician and popular YouTube star, is announcing that his new album "Epigrams and Interludes" debuted on the iTunes Charts at #8. Day, described by Forbes as "the future of music" charted ahead of Justin Timberlake and One Direction in the UK on Sunday.

"Epigrams and Interludes" which features 20 songs, including the #4 UK hit single "Forever Yours" (more than 100k downloads), is Day's first full length album in three years. As of Monday, it's highest iTunes positions were:

-#8 in the UK
-#8 in Australia
-#18 in the US
-#20 in Canada

Unlike the major label artists charting this week, Day writes, produces, releases and promotes his music himself. To date, he has accumulated more than 600,000 downloads and 100M YouTube views.

"I am so grateful to my audienceit's been their diehard support and passion that's made it possible for me to pursue this release strategy. I've been able to succeed without the "help" of a major label all because of them and their efforts," says Day.

Earlier this year, Business Insider wrote that Alex Day was the "the most famous musician you've never heard of." With this week's numbers, it's clear that the latter part of this claim is no longer true. Even without a major record labelin fact, without any industry supportDay is fast becoming one of the biggest acts in music.
