The fourth annual Albuquerque Film & Music Experience (AFME) kicks off in April, with this year's events featuring one-of-a-kind musical experiences, including the 2016 Showcase Music Event. The showcase event evening begins with the New Mexico Premiere of the documentary Nathan East: For the Record, followed by a Concert Tribute to Nathan East.
Nathan East, one of the top bassists in the world and the recipient of the 2016 AFME Music Award, will be honored at the tribute concert on Saturday, April 23. The concert, presented by AFME and Yamaha Entertainment Group, will take place from 9pm-11pm at the historic KiMo Theatre. Performances will feature songs he has recorded throughout his career, performed by top names in the music industry, and the concert will be a tribute to the significant contributions he has made to the industry.
The concert will follow the presentation of the documentary, Nathan East: For the Record, presented by Founder and Vice President of Yamaha Entertainment Group, Chris Gero. At the event, Chris will be presented the AFME 2016 Visionary Award. The film will be shown at the KiMo Theater from 6-8pm. Tickets are now on sale for both events and can be purchased separately. With over 2,000 recordings, East is considered one of the most recorded bass players in the history of music. East is a founding member of the contemporary jazz quartet Fourplay, along with Bob James, Lee Ritenour and Harvey Mason. Nathan East topped the jazz charts and received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album. Most recently, East was in the studio to record an album with longtime friend and fellow Fourplay member, Bob James. The legendary bassist and keyboardist released The New Cool in 2015. The Grammy nominated album is an acoustic jazz offering centered around duets by the celebrated jazz artists.
