21C Media Group today announced that it now represents American lyric soprano Ailyn Pérez, whose burgeoning international career has already seen her in leading roles at many of the world's foremost opera houses and concert halls. As the Associated Press observes, her "lyric soprano is pure and honeyed in tone, and she deploys it with elegance and tenderness"; the Philadelphia Inquirer cites her "inner radiance combined with vocal luster.

Over the coming months, Pérez looks forward to reprising three leading roles: Mimì in Puccini's La bohème, at both Los Angeles Opera (May 12-June 2) and Zurich Opera (June 5-10); Marguerite in Gounod's Faust, at Hamburg State Opera (Feb 15-24); and Violetta in Verdi's La traviata, at Cincinnati Opera (July 25-29). Her performance in the role at London's Royal Opera House was heralded as "ideal" (Observer) and "an unalloyed triumph" (Guardian). She also stars in Mascagni's L'amico Fritz at the Moscow State Philharmonic Society (June 25) and headlines Poulenc's Gloria with the Atlanta Symphony (April 12-15). Her co-star in Los Angeles, Cincinnati, and Moscow will be her husband and frequent collaborator, tenor Stephen Costello; together, the Associated Press dubs them "America's fastest-rising husband-and-wife opera stars.

In recent seasons, Pérez made a number of important debuts. At the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Hamburg State Opera, and Vienna State Opera, the vehicle for these was Verdi's Violetta; at Milan's Teatro alla Scala it was his Amelia, in a production of Simon Boccanegra featuring Plácido Domingo and conductor Daniel Barenboim that also appeared at the Deutsche Staatsoper. Recent highlights also include the title role of Gounod's Roméo et Juliette for Opera Company of Philadelphia, and his Marguerite at both San Diego Opera and Santa Fe Opera; singing Zerlina in Don Giovanni with the Dallas Opera, Countess Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro at the Ravinia Festival, and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with the Deutsche Staatsoper; undertaking the title role in Massenet's Manon for Palau de les Arts in Valencia; starring as Puccini's Mimì at Cincinnati Opera; and making her role debut as Leila in Bizet's Pearl Fishers with the Teatro Municipal in Santiago, Chile. Pérez's high-profile gala appearances include those with Plácido Domingo and José Carreras.

Born in Chicago to Mexican-American parents, Pérez holds her Latina heritage in special regard. A graduate of Indiana University and Philadelphia's Academy of Vocal Arts, the soprano's numerous honors include the 2006 George London Award and second prize in Plácido Domingo's 2006 Operalia Competition.
