Ages and Ages Releases New Album 'Me You They We'

Ages and Ages have released their new album Me You They We today. The follow up to their critically acclaimed 2016 release Something to Ruin, has been called the "best album they've ever done".

Ages and Ages are about to head out on a west coast run next week, seeing the band touring to Los Angeles before heading east later in the Spring. Over at Talkhouse Rob Oberdorfer and Tim Perry dig into much more than the recording process, as the album is a reflection of their experiences over the past two years of climate change catastrophes, racist policies, rising fascism and an overt culture of dread of an unknowable future. These two took their time to document some of the micro and macro feelings that living through near-daily atrocities evoke. Me You They We is as much a personal record, a journal of specific instances, as it is an indictment of the political landscape.

Me You They We is a statement of purpose that also served as a respite, a kind of musical group therapy, for the principle songwriters of Ages and Ages, Rob Oberdorf and Tim Perry, who got together twice a week, along with drummer and co-producer Evan Railton, to cope with the daily onslaught of atrocities by writing through it. Ages and Ages continue with their offbeat take on indie-pop in ebbs and flows of optimism and pessimism but never falling into cynicism.

The process of creating Me You They We was a long, deliberate one. It was a bit of a luxury, with the trio having their twice-weekly writing and recording sessions at Oberdorfer's home studio, sometimes with friends adding vocals. Having that space and equipment allowed them to work through the material at their own pace, taking creative sideroads whenever an idea presented itself. Working on their own, they could have complete control over the sessions, without outside voices muddying the waters. Me You They We feels like a true statement of purpose for Ages and Ages.
