Afrolicious, the live-electronic outfit from San Francisco, is resuming their famed seven years running weekly party at the Elbo Room on Thursday, February 5th, filling the void for unique, funky, soulful and Afro oriented music in the city and Bay Area.
The collective, a harmonious collaboration united by the love of the universal groove, morphed from the Elbo Room, beginning not as band, but as a club night at the famed venue in the Mission District in 2007. Now boasting a dozen funky connoisseurs and touring across the nation, the group is bringing back their popular Thursday night dance party.
The consistent demand from the band's loyal following and the desire to share their beloved music with the community led the funk collective back to their celebrated residency. "There have been so many amazing relationships forged and nurtured at that event over the seven years we did it every week," says founding member, Pleasuremaker. "Many regulars of the weekly told us that Thursday was basically their church, where they go to worship with their community of fellow dancers, open minded and generally loving and fun people." A party for all, Afrolicious is doing their part to keep San Francisco a bit weird and pay homage to the city with their unique sound, rarely heard or played elsewhere.
With the love of celebrating soulful music at the foundation of their collective, Afrolicious is now promoting all their music on Bandcamp (afrolicious.bandcamp.com) under a "pay what you want" model.
