Singer Adrianna Freeman is winding down a busy week at the CMA Music Festival in Nashville, with her biggest show to date, opening for "American Idol" runner-up Bo Bice at The Listening Room on Friday, June 7.
Freeman, whose debut album "Just A Girl" was produced by Teddy Gentry of the super-group Alabama, has recently been celebrating the release of her single and accompanying music video "Just A Girl. The song, which deals with children growing up in broken homes, is being picked up by a growing number of radio stations, and will soon be the subject of a story to air on the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN).
"It's an amazing opportunity to open for Bo Bice, especially considering how close he came to beating Carrie Underwood, who, of course, is now considered country music royalty," Freeman said. "I love how Bo combines blues and Southern rock."
Bice placed second on "American Idol" to Underwood in 2005, and has since released several albums, including his new CD "New Soul Revival."
Freeman fell in love with country music as a young girl in the Florida Panhandle, listening to such country icons as Waylon Jennings, Randy Travis, Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline. She began singing at age 8, at her church and at her family's produce market in Tallahassee. She struggled for years in Nashville, eventually catching the attention of Teddy Gentry, who invited her to record a single for a compilation disc he was producing for Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores. The project was so successful that Gentry agreed to produce Freeman's debut album.
Freeman will be joined at The Listening Room by her new band: Tyler Reese, lead guitarist; Zach Torres, lead guitarist; Austin DeVries, drummer; Wes Yee, keyboard; and Theo Hartlett, bass guitarist.
Adrianna Freeman will open for Bo Bice at The Listening Room, 217 2nd Avenue South, Nashville, Tennessee 37201, on Friday, June 7, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Bice is scheduled to go on at 8:00 p.m. Tickets: $20-$50.
