Elektra Records has announced the addition of New Orleans-based, indie pop band Royal Teeth to its celebrated roster. Their label debut expected in 2016 will be the band's first new music since releasing 2013's Glow, which featured the hit single "Wild."
"We are very excited to join the Elektra team," says Royal Teeth co-lead vocalist Gary Larsen. "Jeff Castelaz has been a part of the Royal Teeth family for a long time and we are thrilled to reconnect with him as we continue our musical journey."
"I first saw Royal Teeth perform several years ago at a small, sweaty club in the French Quarter. Since that night, they have done the hard yards, developing one bit at a time, playing every club and nearly every festival in the U.S.," says Elektra president Jeff Castelaz. "So today, it's a real honor to welcome Royal Teeth to Elektra Records."
Known for their exuberant live shows, the quintet have been invited back to perform at the annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival for the third time in their young career. The band's highly coveted performance slot on Friday, April 24th, sees them sharing the stage with Hozier and Wilco. Following Jazzfest, Royal Teeth will head to Texas for a run of dates (see itinerary below).
With its members originally hailing from all parts of Louisiana, Royal Teeth first came together in New Orleans in 2010. A year later, the band would self-release their debut recording, the five-song EP Act Naturally, and subsequently embark their first national tours. In 2013, Royal Teeth released their full length debut Glow through Dangerbird, the Los Angeles-based independent record label co-founded by Castelaz prior to his arrival at Elektra. The album's infectious single "Wild" proved to be a runaway success, enjoying national radio airplay and being featured in countless television shows, commercials, video games, and movies. Additionally, Royal Teeth performed the song on Fox's "American Idol" and NBC's "Last Call with Carson Daly." The companion music video for "Wild" directed by A/J Jackson, frontman for the band's new labelmate Saint Motel, before either had signed with Elektra can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhK3HaviHMw. Developing into a dynamic live act, the band has toured alongside Fitz and The Tantrums, The Mowglis, and Walk The Moon, and was tapped to perform at high profile festivals including Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, and Voodoo Music Experience. Royal Teeth's effervescent sound highlighted by soaring vocals of Gary Larsen and Nora Patterson has been heralded by SPIN, USA Today, and NPR who described the band as "...a confetti gun of joy."
Royal Teeth is: Gary Larsen (vocals/guitar/percussion), Nora Patterson (vocals/percussion), Joshua Wells (bass/percussion), Josh Hefner (drums/percussion), and Thomas Onebane (guitar)
