Jazz singer, pianist and composer Tony DeSare returns to Jones Hall Nov. 11-13 to perform I Love a Piano, a program honoring ultimate piano men led by Principal POPS Conductor Mike Krajewski.
Considered a modern-day crooner in the tradition of Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole as well as revivalists Harry Connick Jr. and Michael Bublé, DeSare will interpret classic pop piano mainstays like Gershwin's jazz-influenced hallmark work, "Rhapsody in Blue,"Claude Debussy's "Clair de lune," Ray Charles' "Hallelujah, I Love Her So Much," Elton John's "Philadelphia Freedom" and John Lennon's "Imagine," in addition to original songs that pay homage to the Great American Songbook.
Named a Rising Star Male Vocalist in Downbeat magazine, DeSare has lived up to this distinction by winning critical and popular acclaim for his concert performances throughout North America and abroad. From jazz clubs to Carnegie Hall to Las Vegas headlining with Don Rickles and major symphony orchestras, DeSare has brought his fresh take on old school class around the globe.
DeSare is also an award-winning composer. His original songs have been featured in the 20th Century Fox film The Tooth Fairy and the 2005 indie hit My Date With Drew, in addition to several broadcast commercials. He has three Top-10 Billboard jazz albums under his belt and has been featured on the CBS Early Show, NPR, A Prairie Home Companion, and the Today Show.
The concert will take place at Jones Hall for the Performing Arts, 615 Louisiana Street, in Houston's Theater District.
