AMNH to Continue 'One Step Beyond' Series with Louie Vega and Duane Harriot, 1/9

The American Museum of Natural History continues One Step Beyond's eighth season with DJ sets by Louie Vega and Duane Harriot. The event will take place in the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Hall of the Universe on Friday, January 9 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

At these events, an ongoing party series, guests can dance in the Museum's Rose Center for Earth and Space to the sounds of the biggest names in techno, electronica, hip-hop, and indie rock. Guests can also enjoy the Hayden Big Bang Theater, located in the lower part of the Hayden Sphere, which features a dynamic multimedia presentation, narrated by acclaimed actor Liam Neeson, that takes visitors on a thrilling four-minute trip from Earth to the edge of the visible universe. One Step Beyond is presented with Brightest Young Things.

Louie Vega, headliner - Grammy winner Louie Vega was born in the Bronx, and started his career as a DJ at Studio 54, Devil's Nest, Hearthrob, Roseland, and the Palladium. Soon Vega was producing his own remixes, which included Information Society's "Running," Noel's "Silent Morning," and Debbie Gibson's "Only in my Dreams." In 1991, Vega created the production team Masters at Work with Brooklyn-based DJ Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez, which produced the highly praised albums "Nuyorican Soul" and "Masters at Work -- Our Time Is Coming." Masters at Work also remixed and produced for Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Madonna, Jamiroquai, Tito Puente, India, Janet Jackson, Tania Maria, George Benson, The Black Eyed Peas, Jocelyn Brown, Los Amigos Invisibles, Bebe Winans, and Earth, Wind & Fire.

Duane Harriot, opening DJ - Brooklyn based DJ/Producer Duane Harriot has been a part of the New York City music scene for over 18 years. Harriot is a founding resident DJ of the NYC NegroClash parties and is currently half of the acclaimed disco production team Devin Dare. Their productions have found a home in the crates of DJ's all over the world, including Peanut Butter Wolf, Theo Parrish, Danny Krivit to Ricardo Vilalobos, Funkineven, and Stretch Armstrong. For four years and counting, he has also been hosting a radio show on the legendary freeform radio station WFMU every Wednesday.

It all takes place at the American Museum of Natural History. Guests should enter through the Weston Pavilion entrance on Columbus Avenue at 79th Street. Admission to One Step Beyond is $25 in advance, $30 on the day of show. Guests must be 21 or older and present valid ID. A beer and wine cash bar is available. Advance purchase is recommended.
