AARP Finds Original Aretha Franklin Song in Archives Image

AARP just discovered an amazing Aretha Franklin song in their vaults, and for the first time, they're sharing the original song in honor and celebration of the admirable life she led.

AARP - the nation's largest nonprofit dedicated to empowering people 50 and older - worked with Aretha in 2007 to record an original song titled, "Stand Up for Yourself," which served as the campaign theme song and video for the AARP Divided We Fail coalition. The coalition advocated for an end to partisan gridlock in Congress. Though business and labor unions often oppose each other, the point of the campaign was that these groups agree on a series of tenets, including affordable health care for everyone, which would eventually lead to the Affordable Care Act, and a strengthened Social Security system.

AARP has released the original song and invites you to listen to the Queen of Soul as she champions for civil rights for all Americans through her voice. You can tune into the upcoming episode of AARP's podcast Take On Today scheduled to air tomorrow Thursday, August 23rd to hear the song and learn more about its history and significance.
